- Identify appropriate generative AI (GenAI) tools to search and integrate evidence into daily practice and documentation.
- Develop strategies to effectively incorporate AI-generated content from GenAI tools into occupational therapy practice ethically and responsibly.
- Evaluate the benefits and limitations of using GenAI tools to support OTP workflows and decision-making.
Abstract:
This introductory course will explore the use of generative AI tools to enhance daily documentation andevidence-informed practice for occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs). Participants will learn how toefficiently access and incorporate relevant evidence into their clinical documentation and utilize thesetools to support assessment and intervention planning. Through hands-on demonstrations and casestudies, attendees will gain practical skills to optimize their workflow and deliver high-quality, data-drivenoccupational therapy services.
Biography:
Dr. Patel is a Chicago-based occupational therapist, entrepreneur, and AI educator who helps clinicians and family caregivers navigate aging, technology, and health-care systems. With nearly a decade of experience, she started and runs Aging Together, a podcast and care consultancy that blends evidence-based OT with emerging technologies to support proactive aging. She teaches university courses on mental health and AI ethics, leads a national support group network for family caregivers of older adults, and provides strategic guidance to organizations on technology adoption. Dr. Patel has spoken at AOTAINSPIRE, state conferences, and OT academic programs, and her work has been featured on multiple podcasts and in articles on Care.com, Spotlyts Magazine, Authority Magazine, The Story Exchange, and more.
