Integrating AI in Pediatric OT Practice: Where Are We Now?

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Explaining the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Pediatric OT Practice.
  2. Presenting some of the research related to artificial intelligence in pediatric OT practice.
  3. Organize the research based on their purpose or usage in pediatric OT practice.
  4. Outline the concerns about the use of AI in pediatric OT practice.
  5. Synthesize the information from current research and stakeholder perspectives about AI and recommend future research.

Abstract:
Since its emergence, the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) in society have become apparent. Its usage in pediatric OT practice is one avenue showing evidence of these benefits. This presentation aims to synthesize all available research and determine the level of integration of AI in pediatric OT practice.
 

Biography
Dr. Analyn M. Joens is an occupational therapist who worked for 22 years in various school districts in the Philippines and the United States. She also owns Altair Educational and Therapeutic Services, a home-health pediatric agency servicing families in Phoenix's west and east valleys. Dr. Joens graduated with her post-professional doctorate from Gannon University and a doctor of health education from FEAST. She also has a master's in special education, which she completed at the University of the Philippines. Dr. Joens' interest in computer programming led her to develop a web-based tool called the Eight Senses Goal Setting Assistant (ESGSA), which she piloted through her capstone project. She also wrote her master's thesis entitled "Grocery Store Simulation Game in Teaching Grocery Shopping Skills to Individuals with Autism." She used Visual Basic to develop the Grocery Store Simulation Game software. Her interest in technology, specifically AI and Robotics, continues until now.
